Hello there, friends of Unity Joy of Life! I bring you greetings from Orcas Island, Washington, and I thought today we would start with a practice. It's a Buddhist practice that's very easy - and very hard, especially in today's day when there's so much going on in the world.
We're really in a transition time on planet earth and this one practice will make all the difference in the world for you as we go along our growth period. And that is to see things as they are and not insist on something different. And isn't that something that we see nowadays? We see a lot of conflict and there are people that are insisting that we see things their way.
And I remember, I was in my 30s - I had a real “aha” moment. You see my dad was not the kind of man that would say that he loved you or that he was proud of you, and I really wanted that. I wanted him to be different than he was, and I remember having a conversation with him just making him so wrong.
And then I woke up to the idea of, what if I didn't want anything from him? What if I didn't want him to be different than he was? Because he really was a fantastic dad in many, many ways and I know that he loved me. And he showed it to me in his way. What if I didn't want him to be different? And what if I stopped insisting in my mind that he was different?
My friends, there was such freedom in that. Such freedom.
And I share that with you because eventually he became that person that I always wanted him to be. He always said, “Oh, I love you. I'm so proud of you”.
It was a miracle for me. But that was because I didn't insist on him being different than he was. And planet earth is asking us to not want things to be different than they are.
And many times people present a different demeanor, a different way of looking at things - and it's like, “No, I'm insisting you look at it my way”. It's just like this one scene from Young Frankenstein. I love that scene. “What hump?”
When we see things as they are, then we don't want things from others. It's so freeing, my friends. And when you get to that place, then there is this state of consciousness which we can walk through any condition, any circumstance, just freely.
So I offer that to you because when Jesus said, “What is that to thee? Come and follow me”, he was saying, “Let the differences just be, and follow a higher way of thinking, a higher way of being. Just don't want anything and just be”.
So with that, my friends, I wish you a most beautiful day today. It's really beautiful here. And God bless you.
Until next time, I'm keeping the faith for you.
