Hello there, friends of Unity Joy of Life!
A few weeks ago, I went to the health food store. I bought a substantial amount of things, and as I was being checked out, I noticed that I was given the Senior Citizen discount. And there was this moment where I got offended. My ego self got in the way. And it was a big discount, let me just say that. But as I stayed offended, I realized, oh my gosh, how many times do we go through life complaining about things when the blessing is right in front of us. I guess I just wanted somebody to not just assume I'm a senior, even though I am. Anyway, it was an ego moment.
My grandmother died at the age of 101, and she said, "You know what, Cathy? Life goes by so fast. Just enjoy every moment." The present moment is all we ever have, my friends, and there's so much beauty in the present moment. There's so much to not complain about in the present moment. And I would suggest that you be the silent watcher of the present moment. When you watch your present moment, you can shift into a zen feeling of bliss, of just being here now, and something amazing happens. You forget about yourself. You forget about what you were complaining about. And you are no longer about the things that you have, you're no longer about the skin color, you're no longer about gender, you're no longer about your profession, you're no longer about social media. You are pure Presence of Being, just by being the silent watcher of your present moment. And what happens is you feel more, more like yourself. You feel so connected to something so much greater. You become loving. You become more mindful of the beauty and the blessings around you.
Which, by the way, is your natural state.
There's a scene from Northern Exposure where Chris in the Morning, the philosopher Chris in the Morning, he's talking to Joel who's so upset that he has to spend four years in this area called Sicily and he's complaining. They're in the middle of this radio booth and in front of them is the beautiful scenery around them. And in front of them is people passing by and Joel doesn't see it. And Chris says this, I love this, he said, "The way I see it, you are here right now. I think if you are somewhere, you ought to be there. Because it's not about how long you stay in a place, it's about what you do while you're there. And when you go, when you leave that place, is that place any better for your having been there?"
In your present now, is your present moment any better for your having to be present to it?
My friends, find your zen moment of this generous present now, because life goes by pretty darn fast.
Until next time, my friends, I'm keeping the faith for you.
